Mr. McCarter and Jack Levy on Mentorship, Leadership, and the Step to High School
In Episode 8 of The Late Start Show, Charlie Martin and Jack Nelson sit down with Mr. McCarter, a history teacher at the Shaker Campus, and Jack Levy, US eighth-grade class president. Mr. McCarter shares his journey from teaching in other countries to ending up at University School. While, Jack Levy reflects on his own journey as a student leader, his experiences growing up at US, and his excitement for joining the high school next year. Together, they discuss the importance of mentorship, school traditions, and what it means to be a leader at different stages of life. Mr. McCarter is a Middle School Social Studies Teacher for eighth grade at University School's Shaker Campus. He was appointed to the school in 2021 and also serves as the Eighth Grade Dean. Mr. McCarter coaches Middle School Wrestling and holds a B.A. from The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He has shared his journey of teaching in other countries before coming to University School.
Jack Levy is the eighth-grade class president at University School. He is a student at the Shaker Campus and is preparing to transition to the high school next year. Jack has reflected on his experiences growing up at University School and his journey as a student leader. He has observed different class sizes throughout his time at US, including 16 students in fourth grade and 8 students in fifth and sixth grades.
